Survival in suburbia...Part II

Yet again, the Pacific Northwest was slammed by another winter blast. And once again, Seattle-ites have proven, we are not prepared for inclement weather. As for me? Well, I was lucky enough to partake in the evening's marathon commute...It took me me 4 hours and 2 mins to go 8.7 miles! Unbelievable. What a scene. Cars were abandoned everywhere. People just ditched their cars and started walking...I contemplated walking, but I was wearing 3 inch heels. The parkway that leads to my neighborhood was completely littered with parked cars. I guess I am lucky my car handles good in the snow. Thanks to the storm, I now know what the "ECT SNOW" button means.

To top off my adventure, when I arrived home, I was greeted by a dark and cold house. Yes, that's right...we had NO power. I had flashbacks of the 6 days in December that we spend without power. Thankfully, the power returned by midnight.

Resolution run

No rain on Saturday, so I decided to hit the pavement for the first time in 2007. I had a nice 50 min jaunt on Lake Wash Blvd. It was so nice to be outside...I can only take so much of the treadmill.

On my run, I reflected back on all of the amazing places I was able to run in 2006. I was fortunate to be able to run in Central Park, along the Charles River, Lakeshore Dr in CHI, Manhattan Beach, San Fran, Vancouver BC...and many others, but I think these are my most memorable.

On my run on Saturday, I pondered my 2007 running resolutions. So here I go...

1. Hills!! I WILL train on hills! Watch out San Fran
2. On my long runs, I am committed to staying in between HR zone 2 and 3.
3. Weight training...I will find a new way to commit myself to weight training. Honestly, lifting weight sans Jade and Keoni is just not the same. I've tried working out with other trainers, but they aren't Jade and Keoni. I guess I need to lower my expectations, or move to the Carolina's.
4. Seriously consider training for a full marathon. Stay tuned...

So, what's in store for 2007? I just signed up for the Mercer Island Half on March 25th. Contemplating either the Vancouver BC half in May, or the San Diego Rock'n'Roll in June. H and I celebrate our b-day's in early June...might be a fun way to celebrate. Without a doubt, I WILL run the Nike Women's Half in October.
